Keeping Bananas Fresh

Bought a comb of bananas from the minimarket near my indekost just now. We all know bananas are very temperamental. Keep them in the fridge, and they’ll turn black. Keep them in hot and humid area and they’ll turn black. Keep them in the plastic bag and they’ll turn black. Keep them indoor and they’ll turn black. Leave them on the table and they’ll bruise. Squeeze them and they’ll bruise. The best way to keep their freshness is by hanging and airing them in cool temperature, but not too cool.

Now, how can I keep them, in my room, away from fellow housemates? Sure I can’t finish all in one go. And sure I can’t leave them on the table in my room. It gets pretty hot every afternoon.

Sanny came up with a brilliant idea:

Hang ‘em on the wall.

So taadaa, here they go, hanging on the wall by the hook, next to my room air freshener.

Sanity Check

Bought myself this ticket just now. To me, this ticket means more than just the entitlement to ride on Jakarta’s Busways. It is the ticket that breaks my own mental barrier. It is my ticket to keep my sanity on the ground too.

After hiding in my own cave for a month or so, I finally stepped out to meet a bunch of Medanese friends in Plaza Senayan, doing my own little in-town adventure along the way. Whatever I did and experienced this evening, made me feel better and more normal than lately.

On the lighter notes, the ticket in the picture is Single Trip ticket, for singles. If you are travelling with your boyfriend/girlfriend, you should use Couple Trip ticket instead. Families are banned from using the Busway system because there’s no valid ticket type that they can purchase and use. Just kidding.

I’ve gone through a big change in life lately. I am now based in Jakarta, temporarily staying in Pluit, Jakarta Utara.

Deciding to come to Jakarta to start fresh was easy. It was the next logical step to achieve a better (meaning probably-richer) life. But adjusting life from a small hometown to a big metropolitan city like this is not. But even so, I would consider myself very lucky, having received a lot of assitance from helpful people along the way. Without those people, I am probably a lot worse now.
